Program Format: 4+1 or Traditional Option

The Master of Science in Sport Management (MSSM) program is available in two formats. The 4+1 option allows students to complete both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years. The traditional option is available to students who have already earned a bachelor’s degre, and can be completed in either a two-year track or an accelerated one-year track. Each option is flexible for today’s graduate student and provides the knowledge to become a skilled professional in the sport industry. The MSSM degree is also a great option for those looking to advance in an existing career.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the MSSM program, the following are required:

  • USI Application for Admission to Graduate Studies
  • Application fee of $40.00 payable online or by check to University of Southern Indiana
  • Official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher*
  • A current resume/CV with the names and contact information of three references

*To be admitted to the 4+1 option, students must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at USI with at least 90 earned hours and an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Curriculum

Both the 4+1 option and the traditional option require 33 graduate credit hours. Students in the 4+1 option complete a total of 153 credit hours (120 undergraduate and 33 graduate hours) in five years. The undergraduate program in Sport Management provides opportunities to pursue one of four areas: Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Sport Communication, or Sport and Business Studies.

The master’s degree adheres to the Excellence in Sport Management Education guidelines for graduate-level programs including, coursework in the following areas:

   Social/Psychological Sport Marketing/Communication
   Management Finance/Accounting/Economics
   Ethics in Sport Management Legal Aspects of Sport
