2015 Summer Class Schedule [ARCHIVED PUBLICATION]

Schedule Revisions and Withdrawal from the Semester/Term

A schedule revision is an add and/or drop that leaves you still enrolled in coursework for the term/summer session. A withdrawal is when you drop all courses for the term/summer session. If you wish to alter your original schedule, whether by personal incentive or by school directive, you must do so officially by the procedure outlined below. If you do not assume this responsibility, you may jeopardize your record with the possibility of incurring an ‘F’ in a course not properly dropped and/or not receiving credit in a course improperly added. Merely not attending a course does not automatically remove the course from your record.

Transactions must be completed by 4:30 p.m. on the final day of any registration, schedule revision, withdrawal, or refund period.

NOTE: You may be administratively withdrawn from course(s) by the University for reasons including but not limited to the following: 1) lack of prerequisite, 2) excessive absences, 3) canceled class, 4) disciplinary action, 5) academic dismissal.

Refund Rates

If you drop or withdraw from one or more course through the first two days of a summer session, you will receive a 100 percent credit; during the third or fourth day (third day for Third Summer), a 75 percent credit; during the fifth or sixth day (fourth day for Third Summer), a 50 percent credit; and during the seventh or eighth day (fifth day for Third Summer), a 25 percent credit.* No refund will be made thereafter. Refund checks, if applicable, will be issued by the Bursar’s Office subsequent to the refund period (see the semester calendar for specific dates). Direct deposit of refunds is also available. Enroll through the Student Account section of myUSI or contact the Bursar’s Office with questions; 812-464-1842 or 800-467-1965 (option #4). *See note below regarding courses that meet other than the standard course length.

Schedule Revisions, Beginning the First Day of the Term

Through the first two days of a summer session (100 percent credit*):

After Priority Registration and through the second day of a summer session, students may add or drop courses online via myUSI (my.usi.edu) using the Add or Drop Classes function. Computer stations are also available in the Registrar’s Office for students who need assistance with the online add/drop process. *See note below regarding courses that meet other than the standard course length.

Beginning the third day of a summer session, through 4:30 p.m. on the last business day before the final exam (75 percent credit or less*):

Online schedule changes are not available beyond the first two days of a summer session. Students may add or drop courses in person at the Registrar’s Office by submitting an Add/Drop form. The form requires the signature of the instructor of each course being dropped or added, the student’s academic advisor’s signature, and the student’s signature. If the instructor/advisor is not available, contact the department of the course for assistance. NOTE: Only in exceptional circumstances will students be allowed to add a course after the first two days of a summer session.

  • Distance Education students (those enrolled in a USI course with a section number that starts with an ‘N’) who are unable to visit campus to obtain the required signatures in person may use the Distance Education Drop form to drop part of their schedule. Carefully follow all instructions on the form.

GRADING: No grade is recorded for classes dropped prior to the third day of a summer session.* A student completing an Add/Drop procedure beginning the third day through the third week (through the twelfth day of Third Summer) will receive a ‘W’ for all courses dropped. A student who completes an Add/Drop procedure starting the fourth week (thirteenth day of Third Summer)* through 4:30 p.m. on the last business day before the final exam will receive the grade ‘W’ if passing at the time the class is dropped. However, if failing at the time the course is dropped, the student may receive a grade of ‘F’. *See note below regarding courses that meet other than the standard coures length.

Withdrawals, Beginning the First Day of the Term

Through the first two days of a summer session, 100 percent credit*:

After Priority Registration and through the second day of a summer session, students may withdraw from all classes online via myUSI, using the Add or Drop Classes function. Computer stations are also available in the Registrar’s Office for students who need assistance with the withdrawal process. Students may also withdraw from the term in person at the Registrar’s Office; only the student’s signature is required.

Beginning the third day of a summer session, through 4:30 p.m. on the last business day before the final exam (75 percent credit or less*):

Online withdrawals are not available beyond the first two days of a summer session*. The Withdrawal From All Classes form can be obtained in person at the Registrar’s Office or online at www.usi.edu/registrar. The student’s signature is required, as well as the signature of the Academic Dean (or approved designee) from the college of the student’s major. The student is responsible for securing the signature/approval requried to withdraw from the semester. Until all steps in the procedure have been completed, the student is still enrolled in their courses. A completed withdrawal form will also be accepted by fax to 812-464-1911 or scanned and emailed to registrar@usi.edu.

  • Distance Education students (those enrolled in a USI course with a section number that starts with an ‘N’) who are unable to visit campus to obtain the required signature in person may obtain withdrawal approval via email. The Dean’s office can send their approval to registrar@usi.edu. The email should include the student’s full name, student ID#, and relevant course ID(s). The withdrawal form with the student’s signature is still required.

Courses that have already ended cannot be dropped. Therefore, if the student is enrolled in any special length courses that have ended at the time they wish to withdraw, the student must complete a schedule revision form (with applicable signatures) instead of a withdrawal form.

GRADING: No grade is recorded for classes dropped prior to the third day of a summer session.* A student who completes a Withdrawal From The Semester/Term procedure beginning the third day through the third week (through the twelfth day of Third Summer) will receive a ‘W’ for all courses dropped. A student who completes a Withdrawal From the Semester/Term procedure starting the fourth week (thirteenth day of Third Summer)* through 4:30 p.m. on the last business day before the final exam will receive the grade ‘W’ if passing at the time of the withdrawal. However, if failing at the time of the withdrawal, the student may receive a grade of ‘F’. *See note below regarding courses that meet other than the standard coures length.

FINANCIAL AID: If you receive financial aid, it is recommended that you contact the Student Financial Assistance Office prior to the withdrawal. A percentage, if not all, of your financial assistance may be returned to the source of the fund, which may cause a balance due to the University. Visit www.usi.edu/finaid/policies.asp for complete details. If you have a Direct Loan, you must complete an exit counseling session by visiting www.usi.edu/finaid. Failure to complete the exit counseling session will prevent the release of your academic transcript.

ADDITIONAL STEPS: If you live in University housing, contact Residence Life (O’Daniel North) to properly check out. If you have a meal plan, contact Food Services (UC West lower level) to cancel your plan. If you owe any money to the University, settle your account at the Cashier’s window (OC lower level); an unpaid balance will prevent the release of your academic transcript.

* The typical summer course length is five weeks in First and Second summer, four weeks in Third summer, although a variety of course lengths may be offered. Summer courses meeting other than the typical length, including cross-term courses, have different drop/refund/grading dates. Check www.usi.edu/registrar or contact the Registrar’s Office for these dates; 812-464-1762 or 800-467-1965 (option #3). Online schedule revisions or withdrawals for special length courses can only be processed through the course’s 100 percent refund period (but no later than the first two days of a summer session, whichever comes first). Thereafter, students must submit the appropriate form to the Registrar’s Office for processing.
Transactions must be completed by 4:30 p.m. on the final day of any registration, schedule revision, withdrawal, or refund period.
