SOCW 601 - Clinical Assessment and Psychopathology in Social Work Credits: 3
This advanced course will focus on the process of clinical assessment and psychopathology from the perspective of social work practice. The emphasis is on developing differential diagnostic skills and formulating diagnostic understandings that inform clinical social work practice with diverse populations in a multitude of behavioral health settings for various psychiatric and substance related and addictive disorders. The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the World Health Organization’s International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD), and other approaches for assessing and understanding behavior, psychopathology, and mental disorders will be demonstrated and critically examined.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MSW program and completion of all 500-level core classes or advanced standing status
