MATH 654 - Teaching and Learning Geometry & Measurement Credits: 3
This course is designed to enhance pedagogical knowledge and content knowledge of geometry and measurement for K-6 teachers and teacher leaders. Topics include two- and three-dimensional objects, composition and decomposition of geometric figures, congruence and similarity, basic geometric figures and their relationships, understanding measurement, area and volume, transformations, making and proving conjectures, and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. The pedagogical focus of the course will be on supporting the learning of technical language, using various instructional tools, and the use of both formative and summative assessments. This course is not intended to prepare individuals to teach post-secondary or dual credit mathematics courses.
