STAT 655 - Teaching and Learning Data Analysis Credits: 3
This course is designed to enhance pedagogical knowledge and content knowledge of data analysis and probability for K-6 teachers and teacher leaders. Topics include the statistical investigative cycle, statistical questions, representations for univariate and bivariate data, experimental and theoretical probability, and inferential reasoning. Technological tools for teaching statistics will play a prominent role in the course. The pedagogical focus of the course will focus on equity and diversity in the teaching of elementary mathematics, including the creation of inclusive learning environments, the cultivation of positive mathematical identities, and delivery of instruction that acknowledges cultural and linguistic differences. This course is not intended to prepare individuals to teach post-secondary or dual credit mathematics courses.
