MATH 392 - The Teaching of Elementary School Mathematics Credits: 3
This course prepares teacher candidates to gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to teach the mathematics curriculum in grades K-6. Teacher candidates will learn about the K-6 mathematics curriculum and evidence-based instructional strategies to promote conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world problem solving. Candidates will learn to implement mathematics instruction using high-quality instructional materials and to understand and use student data to make instructional decisions. Emphasis will be placed on fostering students’ development of mathematical processes and practices.
Prerequisite(s): MATH 233 (grade C or better); EDUC 242 or EDUC 292 ; Formal admission to Teacher Education is required prior to registration. Restricted to Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education majors.
