Creative writing programs at the University of Southern Indiana provide focused coursework for students interested in writing poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, pllaywriting and screen writing. Creative writing faculty are published writers committed to undergraduate writing excellence and their craft.

Creative writing students and faculty form an exciting leterary community, which offers many opportunities to get involved, like the Student Writers Union, FishHook (a student literary magazine), Southern Indiana Review (a national bi-annual literary journal) and the Southern Indiana Reading Series.

The English department offers a major in English with a creative writing emphasis as well as a minor in Creative Writing.

Notes: (1) English majors are normally expected to use HUM 241 - The Humanistic Tradition in Literature I or HUM 242 - The Humanistic Tradition in Literature II to fulfill Ways of Knowing-World Languages and Cultures in Core 39. (2) ENG 101 and ENG 201 do not fulfill any requirements for any major or minor in English or English Teaching.
