College of Liberal Arts >> English

18 hours; 2.0 minor GPA required

The Literary Editing and Publishing minor introduces students to the history, methods and practical skills required by the publishing field. 2. Engage with the culture, history and practice of literary editing, and gain an understanding of the requirements of the current publishing field, including standard theories, practices, and conventions of professional editing and publishing, such as copyediting marks, style sheets, and editing and printing terminology.
  3. Produce content with format, tone, and style appropriate to different situations, audiences, and purposes, and organize material clearly and effectively for the intended audience.
  4. Engage in a supervised editing process that ensures regular accurate editing, such as multiple-pass editing and style sheet generation.
  5. Develop best practices for tracking editing work, for communicating with clients as a professional editor, and for managing editing projects, including determining the amount and type of editing, given time constraints and audience
