Human Lactation Certificate Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions >> Food and Nutrition department 9 hours; C or better required The human lactation certificate provides a foundation of knowledge necessary to adequately support a breastfeeding dyad. The required courses focus on basic nutrition, anatomy and physiology of lactation, common lactation issues, and lactation support in community and clinical settings. The courses have a dyad-focused approach to lactation management by focusing on both the mother and baby experience. Students must achieve a grade of C or better in all required courses. The certificate is open to all majors and minors at USI and members of the community.
Undergraduate Certificate Requirements Credit hours earned for a certificate may be applied toward another degree program. A minimum of 6 credit hours toward the certificate must be completed at the University. Coursework taken more than 4 years before the certificate is awarded may not be applied toward certificate requirements. Students earning an undergraduate certificate are not eligible to participate in commencement exercises, but the credential will be added to their official transcript record.
