Master of Health Administration, Health Informatics

The College of Nursing and Health Professions offers three options for a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree (MHA 4+1, MHA, and MHA-Health Informatics Specialty).  The MHA program will educate students for leadership roles in health care.

Regardless of the chosen option, the MHA degree is 39 credit hours. The MHA and the MHA-Health Informatics Specialty options are primarily delivered online with the exception of three intensive meetings.  The 4+1 MHA option is held on the USI campus.

The mission of the MHA program is to equip students with competencies, skills, and knowledge necessary to achieve and sustain leadership roles in the dynamic, growing field of healthcare.  The program’s curriculum is based on evidence based practice enriched by fully integrated research activities with faculty and community partners.

Program Information

The MHA-Health Informatics Specialty option focuses on the application of information management and leadership principles for the improvement of communications across the health care industry.  This option is primarly delivered online with the exception of three Intensive meetings.

Admission Requirements


Admission Requirements for MHA and MHA-Health Informatics Specialty Option:

 PART ONE
For Graduate Studies
 

  • Official** transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.

**Transcripts are only official if the issuing institution sends them directly to Graduate Studies.
 

PART TWO
For the Master of Health Administration (MHA)

 

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Send all transcripts to Graduate Studies.
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or greater on a 4-point scale.
  • Two years of work experience in the health care field highly recommended.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of fundamental principles of economics, statistics, and accounting is highly recommended.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • One (1) page letter of intent describing why you are choosing to pursue an MHA.
  • Three (3) professional references.
  • Completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and 1 focused essay (from the Essay list) OR 3 focused essays (from the Essay list).

For USI to receive your GRE score you need to designate your score to be sent to USI Graduate Studies, our university code is 1335.

  • Students from NON-English Speaking Countries need a Satisfactory TOEFL score of 550 for non-computerized tests and 213 for computerized tests.

The student’s application will not be considered complete until the receipt of all required application materials requested by BOTH Graduate Studies and the Master of Health Administration Program.

Curriculum (39 hours)


The MHA program is designed in a cohort model, meaning matriculated students will take all courses together toward graduation.  The course sequence is based on which option the student selects (MHA 4+1, MHA online, or MHA-Health Informatics Specialty).
