Required Courses (15 hours)
Elective Courses (21 hours)
History majors must select nine hours from one of the elective areas of history, and six hours from each of the other two areas:
Area I - United States History
Area II - European History

At least two of the elective courses must be taken at the 400-level. HIST 498 and/or HIST 499 will be counted in the appropriate elective area if taken as different topics.
History Teaching (optional)
For students seeking licensure to teach history (5-12), the optional History Teaching emphasis identifes courses of greatest benefit. Students seeking to teach history as a secondary school teacher (grades 5-12) are required to complete the History major, 9 additional hours (shown below) and the secondary education licensure minor. Students completing a teaching major must earn at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA, a 2.75 major GPA, a 2.75 GPA in the Secondary Education Licensure minor, and a grade of C or better in all courses applied toward degree requirements.
