The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program at USI is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) in Abdominal-Extended, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vascular, and Cardiac specialties.

Students interested in the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences major should refer to the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences  section of the bulletin for an overview of the program, including available tracks and admission requirements.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Curriculum


All DMS students complete three years of common curriculum, including Core 39, then select one of two options to complete degree requirements:

  • General Sonography + Echocardiography Specialty
  • General Sonography + Vascular Specialty

A grade of C or better is required in all DMS, DVT, and ECHO courses, plus select Core 39 courses.  A typical semester-by-semester class schedule is shown here.
