Coaching Certificate

The coaching certificate prepares students with the foundational knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies needed to coach athletes at a variety of levels. The program integrates athletic performance enhancement, psychology, and injury prevention to develop effective, ethical, and safety-conscious coaches.

Students explore essential topics in the theory and practice of coaching, including leadership, communication, motivation, and the physiological and psychological factors that influence athletic performance. Coursework emphasizes evidence-based strategies for enhancing performance, fostering positive behavior, and promoting athlete well-being.

Upon completion, individuals will be equipped to apply their skills in youth, high school, or recreational sports settings, or to pursue advanced studies in kinesiology, sport management, or related fields.

Undergraduate Certificate Requirements


  • Credit hours earned for a certificate may be applied toward another degree program.
  • A minimum of 6 credit hours toward the certificate must be completed at the University.
  • Coursework taken more than 4 years before the certificate is awarded may not be applied toward certificate requirements.
  • Students earning an undergraduate certificate are not eligible to participate in commencement exercises, but the credential will be added to their official transcript record.
