CHEM 461 - Physical Chemistry I


Credits: 4

Introduction to kinetic molecular theory, chemical thermodynamics, and kinetics. Students will explore the development of these theories from fundamental principles using multivariable calculus. Selected results from statistical mechanics also will be included. Laboratory work is designed to engage students in practical application of these theories and to expand their understanding of formal scientific communication. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 321 , MATH 235 , and PHYS 206 . MATH 335  is recommended but not required.
