PA 655 - Project Management in Public Administration

This course is a graduate level examination of the basic tasks and challenges facing project managers across multiple functional areas in a public administration environment. Since management staff in these organizations are often those persons assigned to manage projects it is essential that they have the knowledge and skills to determine, improve, or establish the project management framework and policies to be used by that organization and to have a basic working knowledge of project management in order to carry out assignments in this function. Successful project managers have the abilities and skills to simultaneously manage their teams, schedules, risks, resources, and deliver a successful outcome. The ultimate goal is to learn the skills and tools of the project management discipline, with a practical “hands on” and real world approach where they must achieve the goals and objectives required for a successful outcome – on time, on spec (speculation), and on budget.
