MATH 392 - The Teaching of Elementary School Mathematics


Credits: 3

This course prepares teacher candidates to gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to teach the mathematics curriculum in grades K-6. Teacher candidates will learn about concepts within the K-6 mathematics curriculum and evidence-based pedagogical practices to support students’ learning. Emphasis will be placed on fostering students’ development of mathematical processes and practices.

Prerequisite(s): MATH 203  (grade C or better); EDUC 242  or EDUC 292 ; Formal admission to Teacher Education is required prior to registration. Restricted to Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education majors.
