NRSG 622 - Advanced Clinical Pharmacology for the APRN

This course provides an in-depth exploration of pharmacologic principles and evidence-based medication management across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, and individualized drug therapy in the context of acute and chronic disease. Students will evaluate the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of pharmacologic regimens, with attention to drug interactions, adverse effects, special populations, and social determinants of health. Legal, ethical, and regulatory aspects of prescribing and prescriptive authority are integrated throughout. Using critical analysis and case-based application, students will develop the clinical judgment required to initiate, adjust, and manage medications within their scope of advanced nursing practice. This course prepares students for safe, effective, and responsible prescribing as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN).
