Teaching, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

The post-baccalaureate certificate in teaching program is designed to prepare a candidate to teach in a field that is the equivalent to the major in their baccalaureate degree. Teaching fields for which this certificate program is available include:
- Language Arts Licensure (grades 5-12)
- Fine Arts-Visual Arts Licensure (grades P-12)
- Mathematics Licensure (grades 5-12)
- Science (Chemistry, Earth/Space Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Physics) Licensure (grades 5-12)
- Social Studies-Historical Perspectives Licensure (grades 5-12)
- World Languages (French, German, Spanish) Licensure (grades P-12)
Admission Requirements
- An appropriate baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited institution with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 or higher
- Content coursework equivalent to a major in the licensure area being sought
- Evidence of academic proficiency by passing the departmental required reading, writing, mathematics tests
Program Requirements
- Maintain a 2.75 or higher cumulative grade-point average at USI
- Earn a grade of C or better in all courses in the program
- Demonstrate content knowledge in the teaching area by passing the appropriate Indiana required content test
- Meet all requirements for formal admission to Teacher Education
Note: At the conclusion of the program, an appropriate pedagogy test is required prior to applying for licensure.

Certificate Requirements
- A minimum of 6 credit hours toward the certificate must be completed at the University.
- Credit hours earned for a certificate may be applied toward another degree program. However, a student cannot earn a certificate that is fully embedded (or subsumed) with the requirements of his/her majors or minor, but must include at least three (3) unique credit hours.
- Coursework taken more than 4 years before the certificate is awarded may not be applied toward certificate requirements.
