CMST 386 - American Cinema and Culture Credits: 3
This is a course intended to introduce students to the history and theory of American film, but more specifically we will examine the reciprocal relationship between American film and American culture. The course begins with an overview of film history and the major developments in the film industry. With such an overview the course moves to understand the theoretical foundations that situate American film not just as a popular form of entertainment, but also as an economic, artistic, industrial, and cultural institution.
